Author : Aravind Adiga
We usually see rich people bringing their maid servants to a shopping mall to carry their shopping buckets, buy apparels more than the monthly wages of their servants. The author of this book Aravind adiga depicting this scenario in his debut book “The White Tiger“. This book has won the Man Booker Prize in 2008.
The White Tiger shows the dark side of India.
Raises issue like poverty, corruption, backwardness, the exploitation of labor class by the rich. The book states the dark comedy and sarcasm on rich people and their thinking.
The protagonist of the book Balaram writes his story in a letter which is addressed to Chinese Primer Mr.Jiabao on how from being a son of a rickshaw puller transformed into a murderer. In the story balaram frequently calls the labour class as “rooster coop”, the chicken in cages. He comes out this rooster coop and breaths the air of freedom to finally becoming an successful entrepreneur.
Its interesting to see how Aravind Adiga has put this story. The language is witty. This book is contradiction to the new shining India and its society , questioning the morality of a person and unromanticized. I would recommend this book to people who love humor in a dark way.
